Using natural hair products l is such an important aspect of the ever growing natural hair community it is wonderful to see that there is an all natural hair company that you can truly call all natural. CurlMix is a DIY product company that produces all natural hair moisturizers, flaxseed gels, hair growth serums and body butter. It is the first ever company that produces all natural, silicone, parabean and sulfate free, vegan and cruelty-free products. Sounds like a mouthful right? The company started in 2015 and revamped in 2016 and it has been explosive growth ever since they have sold over hundreds of boxes and different oils used in each of their product bundles.
Pure Avocado Moisturizer. What is it?
The Pure Avocado moisturizer is exactly what it says it is a pure moisturizer and also a leave-in conditioner. First things first, the slip of this product is to die for, I’ve never had a product with so much slip that wasn’t Aussie Moist Conditioner. It is extremely moisturizing, I remember when I got it in the mail I was so excited to try it, I had been waiting months for it. BackStory: I had previously written a DIY article and included them after discovering CurlMix and as a thank you, she sent me two free products. So after I got them I had to immediately try them, and I did and after I got over the initial shock of the amazing slippage and the baby wipes smell ( I love the smell by the way, if you smell the product in the bottle it smells like baby wipes but, if you smell it n your hair you smell like a field filled with lavenders).
I was floored by the results never had my hair looked so good while doing a wash n go, my curls were defined and moisturized and so voluminous felt like I had achieved my ultimate hair goals (scratch the length); you can find my results on my Instagram. My wash n go lasted 3 days( but that’s only because I do a co- wash and deep conditioning on Wednesday), It would’ve lasted me 5 days if I didn’t. The moisturizer comes in an 8 oz bottle with a pump for easy convenience. On the back of the label, you’ll find directions on how to use the product efficiently, the symbols that define these products as handmade, cruelty-free, vegan and organic, with a little back story about CurlMix’s founding and its ingredients.
You can only buy this product straight from the website CurlMix.com
Ingredients: Distilled Water, Avocado Butter, Organic Jojoba Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Behentrimonium Chloride ( naturally derived from colza oil), Organic GuarGum, Preservative ( Optiphen Plus), Citric Acid.
For those of you thinking, “I thought she said this was all natural, so how come it has preservative”, yes it has a preservative but Optiphen Plus is a unique paraben-free and formaldehyde-free liquid preservative system which consists of Phenoxyethanol in an emollient base of Caprylyl Glycol. The combination of these ingredients provides optimized protection against microbial growth while imparting exceptional feel to the finished product. It is globally approved preservative developed for low Ph systems.
Pros vs Cons
- Great moisturizer
- Leaves your hair smelling like lavender
- Slippage is amazing
- Can be used as a leave-in conditioner
- Sourcing is very limited, the product can only be bought from CurlMix.com
- Price is a little steep for an 8 oz pump bottle.
- Due the fact that it is natural, the product only lasts one year.
Is it worth it?
Due to the nature of how the product is made and the fact that is 100% natural form start to finish. I do believe it is worth it. No other product I know gives me the slippage that this product does and I have never like using water based product because it is usually runny, but this product is amazing its all slipperage which is great for spreading the product even throughout my hair. It leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturizes with defined curls at the same time. As soon as I can I will be repurchasing the products but in a different bundle. They have 6 different bundles each doing something different for your hair.
- Repair Hair – Organic Rosehip Oil (Rose)
- Moisturize Hair – Organic Jojoba Oil (Lavender)
- Sensitive Skin – Organic Sweet Almond Oil (Fragrance-Free)
- Soften Hair – Organic Aran Oil (Lemon Creme)
- Strengthen Hair – Organic Castor Oil (Vanilla Berry)
- Hair Growth – Organic Hemp Seed Oil (Watermelon)
Pure Flaxseed Gel. What is it?
Pure Flaxseed Gel is the first commercialized flaxseed gel that is 100% natural to enter the market. For anyone that at one point has done a DIY gel they know they when it comes to boiling the flaxseeds and draining the gel it can be tedious, so naturally when a 100% flaxseed gel product came to the market everyone flocked to it.
You can only buy Pure Flaxseed Gel on CurlMix.com, which for me was a bit off-putting considering that I live in Jamaica and shipping would be terribly. But I got the product as a thank you gift for including them in a DIY article I did back in August. Remembering how I just mentioned shipping is terrible, well it took almost 2 months to get to my island home. But when I got it I was jumpy and giddy and happy all day I showed to almost everyone I knew and loved. So when my weekly wash day came around I immediately grabbed for it with the Pure Avacodo Moisturizer.
I did my regular routine, shampoo, condition, deep conditioned and then when it was time to apply the products I only used these 2 products so that I could see what they’re were actually capable of. Big Mistake that was, because it’s been two weeks and all my other products are now basically collecting dust. I don’t think any product has given me the wash n’ go this product has ( and I’ve used DevaCurl’s Ultra Defining Gel), and the slippage is just as amazing as the moisturizer. This product does offer some moisture but it is a gel through and through. I haven’t tried it alone yet because my hair needs all the moisture it can get, I have low porosity hair and it is not as easy keeping my hair sometimes moisturized so I usually 2-3 products.
It also comes in an 8 oz pump bottle and the label has basically everything the label on the Pure Avocado Moisturizer has except for different ingredients, different instructions and 3 extra tips.
Ingredients: Distilled Water, Organic Brown Flaxseeds, Organic Jojoba Oil, Marshmallow Root Extract, Vegetable Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Vitamin E, Preservative (Optiphen Plus) Fragrance, Citric Acid.
