Deep conditioning is not the same as conditioning, they are two different processes. Think of deep conditioning as a big chop, without the actual BIG CHOP!. Deep conditioners are designed to fix whatever damage your hair might have, except split ends. You CANNOT fix split ends, you can use deep conditioners to prevent it from spreading from the ends to the roots, but the only way to get rid of split ends it to chop them off.
So the process is shampoo, condition and then deep condition or you can skip conditioning and go straight for deep conditioning. I personally like to condition before I deep condition as it gives me extra moisture.
If you are something who is worried about your hair being dry, frizzy, not growing and damaged by chemical heat or color, you NEED to be doing a deep conditioner one- two times for the week for no more than 30 minutes depending on how damaged your hair is; here are the best deep conditioners to fix damaged hair. Did I mention they are all silicone, paraben and sulfate free? With the exception of one.
DevaCurl Hair Melt Into Moisture
DevaCurl’s Melt into Moisture, the best word to describe this is WOW. If you have the cash, as it is a little pricey but well worth it, I recommend you go out and get this for a try superb deep conditioning experience.
I have been hooked on this stuff for months now and I live in Jamaica where I have to ship these items and I own the 17.75 oz bottle which basically cost me an arm and a leg, so if I’m going through the trouble of getting this, you know its worth it. I bought mine from Amazon.com and it comes in 8 oz or 17.75 oz sizes.
The Devacurl Melt Into Moisture does exactly what it says it does. It wraps your hair in moisture and leaves it feeling refreshed and moisturized with a minty smell. This along with my Aussie 3x Moisture Deep Conditioner was what did a 360 turnaround for my hair. It changed my hair. I used to have thin hair but with the hair masques 2x a week and my hair oils I fell in love with my hair and its newfound thickness and I never thought my hair could be thick.
DevaCurl Deep Sea Repair Mask
The Deep Sea Repair Mask provides moisture but it is more of a protein treatment. A protein treatment strengthens your hair and reduces breakage. If you don’t know if your hair needs protein do a simple strand test.
It took me a while to accept these protein treatments, I never did protein treatments except for the time I went almost strictly DIY. The Deep Sea Repair is my first and only store-bought (or shipped in my case) product, and even though it cost me almost an arm and a leg, It was worth it. I first tried this protein treatment as a sample pack when I was going back to my island (I was in Massachusetts for Summer 2017) and after that, I quickly forgot about it and fell in love with the melt into moisture masque. But when restocking on my products , I decided to give it a chance after reading what protein treatments actually do for my hair.
The Deep Sea Repair Mask comes in 8 oz or 17.75 oz sizes.
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle promises 3x times the moisture in 3 minutes, and it does exactly that. This 8 oz squeezable bottle is like a reset button for your hair. If you don’t have the time for a 20 or 30 minute treatment, this deep conditioner is for you, it hydrates the hair and reduces frizz and you don’t need to use it for more than 3 minutes.
I started using this deep conditioner last year and to this day, I still use it. I have tried other deep conditioners but I just keep coming back to this one. The product is not silicone free, but the moist it provides my hair is too good to pass up on silicone. And yes its a curly hair rule to have nothing with silicone but my hair loves this stuff, so I don’t pay that rule any mind.
I don’t think I would ever stop using this product and it is in short supply in Jamaica, and I’m not the only girl that uses it, when my mom went abroad in May 2018 I begged her to buy me a 6 pack on Amazon and yes I did give away one or two to my fellow natural hair friends; I couldn’t let my hair thrive and theirs suffer.
Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Mask
The Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Mask is formulated with certified organic Blueberry Extract, Aloe Leaf Juice, and Chamomile Extract, clinically proven to REPAIR, PROTECT, RESTORE and GROW your curls.
It softens, detangles, moisturizes, conditions and hydrates your curls while repairing damage, protecting against breaking, and encouraging hair growth. It also leaves your hair smelling sweet like blueberries and comes in an 8 oz jar.
I bought this product and only used it for a short period of time, not that there was anything bad with the product but long story short, a very close friend of mine was is in need of some girly hair products and I have about 2 brands of the full product line, I had Jane Carter Solutions and Mielle Organics, so I packed a gift bag with all my Mielle Organics products including the babassu oil and mint shampoo which was so minty( seriously loved that shampoo) and I gave her the Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Masque.
For the one time I used it, I didn’t get much results because it was one time, but My hair felt a lot more moisturized when I used it. I also started noticing more curls definition in my friend’s hair and her curls started lasting throughout the week. So, in my opinion, this product works, definitely worth it.
Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate Shea Butter
If your hair is feeling extra dry, this is the deep conditioner you need. This Hydrating mask has a blend of whipped Shea Butter with rich coconut and macadamia oils. It deeply quenches dry hair and nourishes and softens strands to get your nurse your hair back to health. On added benefit of this mask is that it can be used as a leave in conditioner.
For the Maui Moisture, it is so hard to find this deep conditioner at my local curly store, every time I go they are out of stock, it gets sold so quickly and that’s because it works.
I prefer this as a leave-in because of the moisture it provides me, but using it as a deep conditioner is just as good.
Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Masque
The Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil was the first deep conditioner I used and I’m telling you everything it says it does, it DOES. This Deep conditioner has a thick texture and restores strength and resilience to hair.Back before the Shea Moisture Conspiracy, This was one of my Holy Grail always restocked on it. It gave me so much moisture and curl definition it wasn’t funny. Everybody at school would comment on my hair, how the curls were so good and how they could get there hair like that.I loved it and the fact that it had castor oil in it was an added benefit.
It improves on the hair’s elasticity and reduces the appearance of shedding and breakage. Perfect for those who regularly color, straighten, perm or heat style their hair, as well as kinky, curly or wavy natural styles.
Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Hair Masque
The Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Hair Masque is specifically for thin to medium hair, not to say that not everyone can use it, but if you have thick, kinky hair it probably won’t do much for you. The texture overall is lightweight as to not weigh the hair down as it deep conditions and protect and hydrates your hair. It also does reduces frizz and adds weightless shine, leaving your hair more manageable.
Honestly, I haven’t tried this product on my hair, because I have switched from Shea Moisture Hair Masques, I do believe they work but I have my Aussie 3x Moist Deep Conditioner with whom I have a steady relationship going with. So instead I am leaving a video of the Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Hair Masque review by BiancaReneeToday , which I am sure you all know.
A good way to increase the benefits of the deep conditioner is to steam you hair while deep conditioning; whether by using a steam cap or microwaving a microfiber towel and putting on your hair or even wrapping a plastic bag, steaming is a good way to increase the benefits of the treatments.
